About the Artist
Sandie Phillips has been searching for her art form for many years. We think she has found it in her sculpted elf images.
While in England, Sandie sewed soft sculptured dolls for her own children. They were such a hit with her kidsí friends, she began making and selling them at bazaars. Wanting to do something different, she noted that childrenís faces were similar to chubby elf and Santa faces. So, she developed a Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus from the baby doll design she had been using. These became a special item in England where she sold over 70 sets.
Returning to the States in 1987, she went to the National Christmas Show. There she was impressed with several artistsí Christmas scenes that were done in the Victorian style. She wondered if she couldnít sculpt more merry Santas. She also noticed there werenít any elves available. After the Christmas holidays, she set out to experiment with sculpting elves.
Since she had no formal training in either sculpting or doll making, her early efforts amounted to one extended trial and error. She experimented with different media, doll assembly techniques and developed her own method for sculpting the heads and hands.
Finally, in February of 1992, Enchanted Elf Images was established as she prepared for the '92 Christmas Season. Her first and only show that year was the National Christmas Show at the DC Armory. However, it was a tremendous success and her creations were well received.
While raising her family, she has participated in a limited number of shows close to home. In some years Sandy has invited her customers to her home to preview what's new. In the ten years since her first show, the elves have found homes across the US. Click here if you would like to be notified of a show in your area.
Merriest of Seasonís greetings to all our friends from Enchanted Elf Images. May this holiday time be the best ever for you and your family.
